Areas of Practice
Steven Wiese has been a licensed psychologist in private practice since 1984. He works from a Christian approach and world view, and will incorporate it into his work with clients when that is desired. Areas of interest include depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, grief work, restoring marriages affected by unfaithfulness, and marriage and pre-marriage work.
Steven has co-authored the workbook for the book “Finding the Freedom of Self-Control”, written in 1987 by Dr. William Backus. Steven was able to revisit his passion for writing in 2008 when he wrote “The Illusion of Control”. This book addresses the struggle to give up a particularly difficult misbelief in our self-talk, namely, “I am the problem”.
Steven has taught and consulted with several organizations, including the World Mission Prayer League, the Lay Ministry Training Center, Master’s Institute Seminary, Presbyterian Homes, and Concordia Academy. His past speaking and teaching engagements have brought him to Germany, Sweden, and across the U.S. Steve regularly teaches a seminar for the Master's Institute, and also speaks each year for the AP Psychology classes at Roseville Area High School. In 2014, he presented the seminar "The Church, The Clinic and The Client" at the fall gathering of the Minnesota Association of Christian Counselors.
Steven began working at North Heights Lutheran church as a lay staff member in 1985, and during that time assisted Dr. Backus in the training and supervision of lay counselors, as well as doing some teaching and worship leading. In 1991 he took over as Director of the North Heights Counseling Clinic. In 1992, he was ordained as a Lutheran pastor and served NHLC as an associate pastor until 2016. As an Ordained Pastor, Steve is registered with the State of Minnesota as a Wedding Officiant.
